Pakistan Crusade: Over 300 people Receive Holy Ghost!
Wow! What an awesome time. The Shalms are doing a phenomenal job, and their AIMers, the Scotts from New Brunswick, are excellent assistants. The Pakisan Bible school is poised for growth and the church is united to win many to Christ. The spiritual atmostphere is quite hostile, but as the early church, it perserveres in trial and fire!
The church held their General Conference. Bro. Willoughby invited me along, and we had a wonderful time. The first night there was an attendance of over 3,000. Bro. Willoughby preached on God’s healing power and over 40 people claimed instant healing in their bodies. He asked me to preach the second night on repentance for the Holy Ghost service.
When we arrived at the Bible school complex on the second night, the beat of the Persian drums and the sound of the music echoed in the night. Bro. Willoughby, the Shalms, and the ministry team laid hands on me before the service, and the Holy Ghost swept over us. Close to 6,000 people were standing, clapping their hands, singing and dancing as we walked up the aisle to the platform under a large red tent. Persian rugs covered the dirt floors. A choir wrapped around one side of the tent and up on the platform, clapping and singing. Before the pulpit, men danced in circles, children jumped, and everyone glowed! There was complete freedom. Faith filled the air! It felt like anything could happen.
After almost 2 hours of worship, the lights and power cut off. The town’s 9:00 blackout had taken place! After several painful seconds, the generator started. Several strings of lights flickered back on. The sound system restarted, and then Pastor Willoughby was invited to the pulpit. He introduced me as the night speaker. I remember feeling the confidence of faith and the covering that is felt when many hundreds of people are praying, all at the same time, for you and the ministry of the Word of God. As I preached, I could feel my words pushing into the spirit world.
I preached that God made man in His image; He didn’t make a machine that had to obey, but God gave man a choice. He gave him one law. He gave him one decision. Man decided to break the law, and in breaking the law, he now became the servant of sin which passed down judgement to all of his children (we who are alive today).
The Law called for death. But the righteous judge served a law higher than the law of death and sin, he served the law of love. The judge fulfilled the punishment of death, for he stood up, took off his robe, came and stood before the condemned and told the court, “Man must die, but I love him too much to allow this. I will die in his place!” The invisible God formed a body. He put His Spirit into that body. He put His name upon that body. And then He released His power through that body: sicknesses were healed, demons were cast out, the dead were raised back to life. Freedom from sin’s symptoms had come! But sin clouded the hearts and minds of the created, and they brought death to this sinless “Lamb of God.” So Jesus was crucified on the cross, was buried, and came back to life! Now, man can have Freedom from the law of Sin and Death and not just freedom from the symptoms of sin.
Bro. Willoughby stood and instructed the crowd to repent. The entire crowd knelt on the floor, pressing their faces against the rugs and dirt. After standing and shouting Hallelujah, the Holy Ghost fell like rain. Bro. Shalm gave us initial reports that around 350 people had received the gift of the Holy Ghost.
